Spring Time News

Hello Blogville, it's you one and only gossip bunny with all the latest news and thoughts from my corner of the world.....

Spring so far has been weird so far, one minute it was like winter and we had snow, then it was typical march winds... and when I say winds I mean gales and storms and then April hit and we have had summer weather and now back to normal April showers. As I said weird weather, I don't know how the birds, the hedgehogs and other wildlife do it raise there babies with all this going on. So with that in mind we have news and updates on the locals that visit our garden starting with Baby the Jackdaw...He's lost a few bore feathers but that's now due to his molt and he has pin feathers appearing on his tail and in places on his wings, with a few slightly longer one growing on his wings. we was hoping that there would be more progress than that by now but at least they are coming. But it looks like it will be more like June to July maybe even into August before he's ready to fly....these things take time.

This was taken at the end of March, mum needs to take some new photos of Baby.

The next updates are on the male blackbird who comes to us for food to feed himself and his babies. It was a busy time with him coming and going taking beakfulls of live mealworms for his babies. luckily that has finished for the moment as the current brood have fully fledged and have left their parents to live independantly....one of those babies comes to the shed for food too though his papa is not happy about it and chases it off, but the young one still returns once papa has gone....*Giggles*

The hedgehogs are in full swing too coming for their dinner every night although one big one has moved in to the greenhouse for the moment....which means mummy has to clean up after it all the time....*Giggles*

And Finally the new bit of news....we have a Eurasian Magpie( different from the Australian magpie which is not a member of the corvidea family like the ones we have) he or she is a runt from last years brood. all winter it has been stuggling and was very skinny then the weather improved with Springs arrival and it gained a little weight though at the time mum was shooing it off out of the garden because well Magpies are known for killing small birds and well animals like me but it was constantly being attacked by the jackdaws and the other magpies over the last few weeks and its now lost an eye. Mummy caught it a few times in the shed because it keeps sneaking in for food, She caught it because the injured eye was looking pretty grim and mucky so she wanted to give it a good look at the eye and health check with a view to maybe having to take it to the vets....How ever its healed up and clean now but the eye is basically gone. its still being bullied by the other birds even the blackbird so mum being mum and having a soft heart is letting it come for food in the shed when ever it wants to help it get strong and fit. Mum caught it agian yesterday because it has suffered another scrap but luckily it jus some missing feathers and a little scratch on the back of the head so she was able to let it go again. You would think that the Magpie would stop coming after being caught by mum so many times but nope it looks like its getting used to mum checking it over cause afterward she queitly lets it go in the shed so it can rest a bit and then have some food before leaving . Dad so him go in the shed this morning and went down to take a look at him and the Magpie didn't panic it just moved away from the door where dad was standing until dad left it. it didn't come out right away it went back and had some food before leaving. And the good news is the Magpie is a bit afraid of me and leaves me alone unlike the other ones which mum chases off. So our one eyed Magpie is a welcome visitor...looks like a Pirate Magpie Just like Speedy was a Pirate Bunny....I guess we are going to have to name it now*Giggles* And yes when Mummy can she will take a photo of our new friend....

The final bit of news is about Jo-Jo the Crow....she's gone missing her human mum hasn't seen her and neither have we or anyone else in the village. We was hoping it was because she was mating but she should have turned up by now for food for her and any babies so it looks like something has happened to her....we're still hoping she will turn up but the longer she's missing for the unlikely it is that she is okay but its only been about 5 weeks so she could still turn up....we're all praying that she will....

So thats everything from our little corner of the world for now xoxo Little Miss Titch
