Hello Blogville its your one and only Gossip Bunny with all the latest news from my little corner of the world. And Today we have BIG NEWS!
Baby the Jackdaw has been desparate to fly and get back with his friends in his flock. Everyday they have been coming to visit him sometimes in a group of 4 or 5 sometimes 1 or 2 of them. They have been coming every morning and in the evening before they fly off to roost. Most of his feathers had grwon back so Baby had been practising in the aviary and he would try to fly out of the door to the aviary with no success. This has been going on for the last few weeks. That is until last Saturday, while mummy was in the bath he managed to fly just a short flight to the shed roof. When mummy came back down stairs she saw him fly from the shed roof towards the aviary, he got confused by the play pen mum was using to give him his safe space to run about with the door to the aviary open during the day. Mummy went down to move it so he could go back to the aviary as it looked like thats what he wanted to do and then at the last minute he changed his mind and went up on to the greenhose roof and did short flights in the neighbours gardens after that he rejoined his flock. We believe Baby was waiting for mum to come back down stairs on the shed roof and as soon as he saw her through the window thats when he flew to the bottom of the garden before he decided he was ready to rejoin his flock. Baby has officially flown the Nest!
These were the last photo's Mummy took of Baby on the 29th July, as you can see he nearly had enough feathers to fly, it took about another 3 week and half weeks to grow enough to fly. Baby was with us for about 6 months and we are so happy for him to have finally regained his wings. He hasn't been back as as far as we know but we have heard him chirp in the distance his specific chirp that he does when he can see us. We don't expect to see him for a bit as he has to strengthen his wings with lots of flying and he explores his new found freedom. but at some point he will turn up looking for snacks so watch this space for that bit of news.
And the other bit of News is that Bumble the Bumble bee is still with us, She has surprised us as its been over 5 weeks now and given the life expectancy of a female worker bumble be is only 4 weeks. This means she is over 6 weeks old now possibly a bit more. The she has been very active lately until a couple of days ago, the last couple of days she has just been have active spurts and then back to sleeping a lot, not sure if that means she is now coming to the end of her life or if she just isn't so keen on some of the flowers mummy has been getting for her as its getting hard to forage for stuff she likes and to find ones she likes that we can buy for her too. Mummy will keep trying to find Bumble flowers that she likes.
Well that's all for now, untill next time
Here's on of me in the garden!
